THOMAS WILLIAM FURNITURE
Heirloom furniture, built by hand to remain.
Shaker-inspired pieces in solid hardwood, designed and built entirely by Tom Dumke, then signed and dated. Traditional, with a modern flair.
The collection
Our Shaker-inspired collection continues, with every piece built to order by Tom. In 2027, it will be joined by one-of-a-kind works, each designed, built, and finished once and never repeated.

After 25 years as a precision machinist, Tom looked at a store-bought bedroom set and knew he could build something better. He opened Thomas William Furniture in 1996 and has worked at the bench full-time since 2003. Today he and his wife, Linda, run the studio together as a family business: Tom as maker and designer, Linda caring for the business and the people it serves.

The woods we work with
Tom chooses every board individually from a small circle of trusted hardwood dealers in Southeastern Wisconsin, then lets the grain guide the design.
- Cherry
-
Warm and honeyed. Deepens to a rich red-brown over the years.
- Tiger maple
-
Pale, with a rippling figure that shimmers as the light moves.
- Walnut
-
Dark, quiet, and dense, with a deep chocolate tone.
- Spalted maple
-
Traced with dark lines, so no two panels are ever alike.
- Leopard wood
-
A rare, speckled figure that brings a quiet spark to a piece.
Built the slow way
Every piece is designed and built entirely by Tom, from layout and joinery to sanding and finishing. He works alone, so each project gets the time and attention it deserves.
-
Solid hardwood only
Native, sustainably harvested species, studied board by board.
-
Traditional joinery
Pegged mortise-and-tenon, dovetails, and other time-honored techniques.
-
Signed and dated
Every finished piece carries Tom's signature and the date it was completed.
No two homes are the same.
We offer customization in materials, finishes, and dimensions, and work closely with you so each piece feels distinctly yours. Starting in 2027, Tom will also build one-of-a-kind pieces, and each one begins with a conversation about your space and how you'll use it.
